This is Huckleberry.

…He was the “work dog” in that he was part owned by one of the bosses and spent time a lot of time at work wandering around the building.

I grew up with dogs but I wasn’t as close to him as a lot of people were, and over the ten years I knew him, we mostly kept a respectful distance.

One particular afternoon, I had had a few of bits of bad news one after the other and was struggling to keep it together, the people I would normally talk to either couldn’t to talk to me or were unavailable, so I sat in the corridor for a few minutes as I felt the world sliding away from me.

Huckleberry came into the corridor and stood looking at me for a few seconds, then after checking the coast was clear he came over and rested his chin on my knee.

Huckleberry passed away on Sunday, he was 13 years old, he had a very aggresive tumour and he died in his sleep on the operating table.

We all miss him very much.

At the Zoo (first animal in)

  • 8 year old: What are these maps?
  • Parent: Well, the red shows where in the world flamingos actually live.
  • 8 year old: Why do they live in those places.
  • Parent: Well I think it might be because all those place are hot and damp, so there’s water, they like water.
  • 8 year old: It’s not red where we live.
  • Parent: No, they don’t normally live in England.
  • 8 year old: So why are they here.
  • Parent: Well, people brought them here, built them this enclosure, and they get fed everyday.
  • 8 year old: Oh…
  • 8 year old: So they’re trapped.
  • Parent: Um..well…yes…I suppose they are.
  • 8 year old: >>wanders off giggling to herself<<

Dream 20.04.10

Charlotte Church sings me the theme tune for the new pocket notebook I just made for myself.

She sings “Paul’s New Notebook” to the tune of “Pie Jesu”.

I think: “I bet Cheryl Cole wouldn’t’ve done that for free”.

Conversation of the Weekend

  • 5 year old A: “Daddy, why didn’t people see dinosaurs?”
  • Grown-Up: “Well, they died a very long time ago.”
  • 5 year old A: “Before people?”
  • Grown-Up: “A long time before there were people.”
  • 5 year old A: “Oh”
  • 5 year old B: “Yes, they died on the cross.”
  • Grown-Up: “……..ermm…no, I think that might’ve been Jesus”

1000 followers

…on tumblr.

Well that’s something.

I started this as a scrapbook, largely for myself, so never really set out to get lots of followers, and as I have said before, I post stuff largely on gut instinct rather than any thought through policy or pre conceived plan (apart from not going too NSFW). But then I suppose one plan is to find out where my head is at generally, in the way I used to with actual “scrapbooks”.

It does mean a lot to me that there are so many people that have found this particular internet snail trail worthy of following, and, most of all, that amongst those there are people who I am proud to say have become actual friends.

So a big love out to you guys.

Although I don’t follow everybody back, I do try to check everyone out from time to time, I have a lot on my plate in general, so the time I spend here is limited and if things go well for me, may be getting less (but that is a good thing, it’ll mean I’m making more stuff!).

Anyways, thank you tumblr, thank you tumblrs.

Always yours
